Foolish Nation

Did the title leave you expecting a rant about America, declining morality, and political wickedness? Sorry, but no such luck, today. For the last few months I’ve been drawn back to Deuteronomy 32 numerous times. Each time I think of this passage I’m grateful for the fact that God has revealed Himself, and that He was willing to overlook my foolishness and include me in His kingdom. I’m proud to be part of a “foolish nation.”

They (Israel) have made Me jealous with what is not God; They have provoked Me to anger with their idols. So I will make them jealous with those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation (Deut. 32:21).

Finally! Someone who agrees with me that Moses was prophesying of the church here in the OT passage.

That is what you are saying, right? I hope?

Have fun and stay busy - Luke 19:13

I can't imagine anyone saying anything else. Do you remember who they think the foolish nation is? It seems straight forward, especially considering the fact that Paul quotes this passage in Romans 10:19.

But I say, surely Israel did not know, did they? First Moses says, "I WILL MAKE YOU JEALOUS BY THAT WHICH IS NOT A NATION, BY A NATION WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING WILL I ANGER YOU."

And then he makes it clear it is the salvation of the Gentiles that is supposed to make them jealous.

I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous (Rom. 11:11).

How wild! I just read Romans 10 & 11 yesterday in my daily reading! :) I thank God that He allows us Gentiles to be grafted into the "vine"! :)
